What's a blog for?

I continually debate the benefits of a blog compared to the effort from a business standpoint. As a communicator I'm often thrown into a world where people are telling me that we need to use one social platform or another technology, however I don't always see the value for the time and energy. So now for the first time I'm considering the benefits of a blog through the KTT (knowledge translation and transfer) lens. I've run across a few case studies where instructors are using the mode of communication in interesting ways. So in that spirit, I thought I would begin my blogging journey - more as an experiment. I don't know how long it will be, how frequent or congruent either, but I'm hoping to try a few things out in this not so new medium to see what resonates with me and works for my business.

I have recently seen incredible benefits from reflexive learning as I'm doing an autobiographical narrative inquiry as part of a masters thesis. It is quite the journey and I now can make the case for a company blog to be a written exploration of the challenges and interesting ideas that emerge with a boutique company such as mine. The learning in the very act of writing a blog may be the utility in itself. If I stretch I may be able to use the platform to create and test ideas in a more free environment.
